I am a freelance Graphic Designer. I am aiming to work in print and publishing industry. To start with, I am trying to get intermediate level of knowledge in all the software required for Print and Publishing Industry. I am starting with Illustrator CS3 and planning to continue with PS CS3, Adobe Indesign and Quark express.

To start familiarizing with Illustrator, I started with Logo designs, and it requires to know basics of Typography.

Can anyone please help me how to get basic and expert knowledge in Typography? Is there any separate software for Typography or can I learn it and master it in Illustrator. Is there a website where I can start gaining and understand the basic typography.

Thanks

Your choice of typefaces and your technique of setting type give your composition its character, pace and style. Not only does it give the copy legibility, it also helps the reader gain a greater insight into the subject of the design.

Adobe Illustrator is the best option for logo design. What makes it on the edge compared to other design software is its ability not to make your designs pix-elated. It just ruins everything when it happens to your design. I'm sure a lot of designers don't want this that's why they prefer using Illustrator.

You can try searching for typography tutorials on google. I've found a good link for you to get started, and if it doesn't work for you, you can still look for others. http://blog.templatemonster.com/2012/02 ... tutorials/
